On March 17, a delegation of Russian pilots arrived at the brigade for
negotiations. Offers were made [to the Ukrainian officers] to join the side
of the "defenders of Crimea." The envoys requested a list of servicemen who
would like to subject themselves to the Russian jurisdiction. Each person
on the list would also have to make a contribution of UAH 200 [USD 20] as a
fee for being issued a Russian passport - since the "package offer"
included Russian citizenship.
The brigade's officers rejected all offers made by the Russian envoys.
The Russians warned that they would come back a few days later, to collect
the brigade's equipment. If the equipment would be dismantled or torn down,
the Russian military prosecutor's office would start criminal proceedings
[against the Ukrainian servicemen]. (Several pieces of equipment are
currently kept at the unit. It had reached the end of its service life and
had not been moved to mainland Ukraine.)
The officers' morale is high. They have no intention of leaving their place
of service.
