Illarionov, the former advisor of Putin, said the KGB president wants civil
war in Ukraine. He said that the plan is not recent, and that with events
as they are, they are having to move faster than intended. He said there
will be tens of thousands dead, blood shed of the worst order.
I fear the west will just wring its hands, if this comes to pass. No one
wants war over Ukraine, a country strapped economically, with all manner of
problems.
Personally, I thought the language law adjustment was not the right And not
the thing to do at this moment. Things were too fragile. Like others on
this list, I live in Quebec, and any mention of language law or
constitution talks just sends in the first instance the anglophones nuts,
and in the second the francophones.
Ordinary people just do not know the details and misunderstand very
quickly. Language is a hot button issue in Ukraine, as it is in Quebec. I
think the govt should have made some politically correct noises about
inclusivity etc to the Russophone and Hungarian and Romanian population.
The corrections to the law could have come later. This makes me think that
someone advised the new govt intentionally badly. Or someone there is
working for the northern neighbour. Because there was no need to hurry this
up.
