The "Introduction" by John Cournos is somewhat russocentric, however, effectively describes the character of Mykola Hohol, the historical context of his writings about Ukraine, his fundamental influence on prose in Russia, and his romantic ukrainian nature and works.
The Electronic Library of Ukrainian Literature provides free access to electronic texts of Ukrainian literature to all readers, particularly to students outside Ukraine, where texts are often difficult to obtain. Eventually, if funding allows, the library will grow to include translations and author biographies, bibliographies, and other secondary materials pertinent to Ukrainian literature, in both English and Ukrainian. At the moment, resources allow for only a modest project to digitize classic texts of Ukrainian prose.
