Leaders from the Group of Seven most industrialised nations went into crisis talks hosted by US President Barack Obama on Monday to decide how to respond to Russia's absorption of Crimea, an AFP correspondent said.
The leaders of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States met at the Dutch prime minister's residence in The Hague on the sidelines of a nuclear security summit.
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and European President Herman Van Rompuy also attended the talks, held around a small circular table with the flags of the countries behind the leaders.

There will be no G8 summit in Russia this year following the crisis in Ukraine, British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Monday, ahead of a meeting of G7 leaders in The Hague.
"We should be clear there's not going to be a G8 summit this year in Russia. That's absolutely clear," Cameron told British television.
"We will be meeting tonight, the seven other countries of the G8, to determine the way forward. But frankly it's Russia that needs to change course."

Russia said on Monday it had banned entry to the country for 13 Canadian lawmakers and public figures, after Canada imposed sanctions against seven Russian and three Crimean senior officials over the crisis in Ukraine.
The Canadians now refused entry to Russia include Prime Minister Stephen Harper's foreign policy advisor Christine Hogan, parliament speaker Andrew Sheer and journalist turned politician Chrystia Freeland, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
