Exactly. They did too little of what was needed and they did it badly.
Much of their time was spent in political backroom haggling i.o.
action. The appointments based on party quotas rather than
professionalism were not just time-wasting but frequently outrageous,
esp. at the local level. Klychko basically opted out of the process
(though here and there some of his people were thrown crumbs). Mostly
it's a Bat'kivshchyna-Svoboda tandem. Re the former: Yulka largely
rules and we know her motivations aren't the purest. As for Svoboda,
Tenyukh is their man I understand, and we have seen the (buried)
scandal of the Miroshnichenko assault on someone who was left in place
(as are many many others). Re Svoboda: One of the most interesting
developments in the last few days has been the revelation (for me at
any rate) that their chief bankroller and puppeteer was a Lviv
gangster. Is there a genuine "Ukrainian mafia" or is it connected to
the Russian mafia? If the latter it would explain the rather strange
"provocations" and stupidities Svoboda has been involved in over the
years, including most recently...
