eith he or Khandohij mentioned the main propagandistic excuse for the
1954 connection. To wit, a "brotherly" territorial grant to the
Ukrainian SSR to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the "reunion of
Ukraine to Russia"...
One could understand why Putin would have been reluctant to mention
this issue. Though he did babble about other territories unwarrantedly
assigned to Ukraine by the Bolsheviks. Of course no mention about the
lands arbitrarily retained by Russia at that time (So. Kursk, So.
Voronezh, Kuban', etc...)
