So Ukraine's army is ready for the Russians if they come, including
the new de facto border in the south with the Crimea.

One day earlier the minister of defense had stated as much:

http://www.unian.ua/politics/897280-zbroyni-sili-ukrajini-gotovi-dati-vidsich-okupantam-tenyuh.html

What I found intriguing was the last sentence in the Tenyukh statement:

"If necessary our armed forces will fulfill their task" (=of
maintaining Ukraine's possession of the Crimea) i.e. if this cannot be
done through diplomacy.

That's what prompted my "deep-Machiavellianism" comment earlier (1%
possibility imho).

Because the Tenyukh statement can be interpreted as an indication of
some sort of military action in the Crimea itself. A la Skorzeny??
