Quoting Anubis <[email protected]>:
Are you saying that as of today, the "independent" Crimean Republic,
recognized by Russia, can be reclaimed by Turkey?
But Ukraine has not recognized this "independence" so I very much
doubt Turkey could do more than remind thew world of that old treaty.
Nobody knows for sure what Putin will do tomorrow. I earlier posted a
report that he would allow it to exist for a while as a distinct
polity, not annexed to but protected by Russia. However there is an
alternative statement, more inline with the expected trend:

If Putin does annex tomorrow, perhaps Turkey will once again remind
him of the treaty with Catherine, but since Ukraine is still
considered the de iure proprietor of the territory, Turkey will make
no formal claim to it.
Putin is tying a series of Gordian knots for the world community.
Let's hope this doesn't lead to Alexander's solution.
