The Kremlin says unknown hackers have launched a powerful attack on the website of the Russian presidency.
The Kremlin's press service said the March 14 DDoS attack knocked out the president's website several times and that measures are being taken to get the site back up.
The Russian central bank also said its website was under attack.
The news comes one day after the Russian government banned four websites known for their criticism of the Kremlin -- Grani.ru, Kasparov.ru, and the online site for "Yezhednevny zhurnal" (Daily Journal).
The Russian communications agency said the websites were being blocked because they have called for incitement to unlawful behavior and for people to take part in unauthorized gatherings.
In addition, the website of prominent opposition figure Aleksei Navalny has also been banned due to Navalny violating the terms of the house arrest he is currently serving.
