In fact, Ukraine remained the colony of Russia not because it paid for
the gas and even not because its fourth president was the puppet of
Kremlin but because the Soviet mentality of Ukrainians correlated with
the Soviet mentality of Russians who turned out to be tragically unable
to perceive the modern times. The failure of the Soviet mentality in
Ukraine means the end of the occupation lasting from the times of The
Council of Pereyaslav. It means the rupture with the past and the
beginning of moving to the future.
And this is what Soviet to the core and awfully provincial Russian
political elite is simply not able to understand. This elite perceives
the process of the establishment of the modern political nation in
Ukraine as a tremendous triumph of the ethnic revolution". It does not
notice that "ethnic revolution" has become just an element of the
Ukrianian travel to the modern times.
